Poinsettias for Care Homes 2024!
The Rotary Club of Brantford-Sunrise is happy to announce our Annual Poinsettia Campaign. Each year we deliver poinsettias to long-term care homes and other individuals in our community who would benefit from some cheer. We do this with the hopes of lifting people’s spirits as the holiday season can be a challenge for some. The recipients always express tremendous gratitude and we plan to spread even more cheer this year with the support of our local community.
RCBS is covering the cost, but we are asking you to donate to help offset the expense out of our the club. Poinsettias are $20 (including tax) and we are asking you to pay for as many as you are comfortable covering. You can also buy poinsettias for yourself to keep or give to a loved one. The plants are purchased from Walter's Greenhouse. Your opportunity to donate/purchase ends on Friday, November 15.
Delivery and pick-up dates will be Friday, November 29th and/or Monday, December 2nd. Stay tuned for details to pick up your order and possible requests for delivery volunteers.

History of the Poinsettia
The poinsettia is a commercially important plant species of the diverse spurge family. Indigenous to Mexico and Central America, the poinsettia was first described by Europeans in 1834. It is particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displays.
Although commonly assumed to be poisonous to animals, Poinsettia plants are not harmful to household pets unless the leaves and bracts are eaten in very large quantities. Some cats that chew on the leaves may salivate and can vomit if the leaves are swallowed. Since cats and puppies frequently chew on new plants introduced to the home, it is prudent to place the plants out of reach.
