John Chalmers is a retired educator with B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Alberta, and has been a widely published writer and photographer all his adult life He has a particular interest in aviation, having served on the board of the Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton, served ten years as Historian for Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame, and has visited and written about over a dozen aviation museums from coast to coast in Canada. For many years he has been serving as membership secretary for the Canadian Aviation Historical Society. Following a year in Air Cadets while in grade 10, John then joined City of Edmonton 418 RCAF reserve squadron as an aero engine mechanic trainee. When he started at the U of A, he transferred to the university's RCAF squadron in the University Reserve Training Program and graduated from it as a Pilot Officer in 1960. He was one of the main writers for the new book about the Alberta Aviation Museum that was published in September 2023.
